The Railway Carriage

BooksEspana, the chain of eleven bookshops in Spain have received my cartons of books I posted to them and will have them in their bookshops ready for sale in a few days. Hopefully they will sell and I will soon have to post them some more!

Bertrams, the well-known book wholesaler in the U.K. are also holding some stock of my book so that any orders from other Spanish bookshops can be filled quickly by them.

Haven’t heard back from the Spanish publisher in Barcelona yet as to whether they are interested in translating it into Spanish. Still holding thumbs.

Spanish bookshops

March 10, 2010

I have just posted off two cartons of books to Spain to a chain of eleven bookshops in the south of Spain who bring English books to the Spanish public.

In late May I am going to Spain to introduce Buen Camino to the bookshops along the trail. Hopefully I will get many orders,  as this year they are celebrating a Holy Year along the Camino as St. James’ birthday falls on a Sunday. It is said that if you complete the trail in this Holy Year then all your sins will be forgiven. As you can imagine, the numbers of pilgrims walking the trail are expected to double so perhaps there will interest  in my Camino book. We are also going to hike in the Atlas mountains in Morocco afterwards which should be exciting!

Book in South Africa

March 9, 2010

Gordon Bell has a carton of copies of Buen Camino in Cape Town and is looking for people to sell them to. I know there are people in Cape Town who wanted to buy a copy but as it wasn’t available there, they couldn’t. So, if anyone is interested now, please phone Gordon in Cape Town: 7621776 and he can organize a copy for you.

mystery phone call

March 3, 2010

I received a phone call today(Wed. 3rd March) from a lady who said she enjoyed reading my book. Unfortunately, the delete button was accidentally pressed before I could hear any more of the message. I have no idea who phoned and would very much like to be able to contact this person. As I don’t have caller ID on my phone I am unable to retrieve the message or the phone number in order to identify the person who called me. If anyone can help solve this mystery please ring again. I’d love to hear from you.

Back from holiday

February 23, 2010

I have recently returned from a wonderful holiday sailing around Great Barrier Island and the Bay of Islands with friends and family. It was relaxing and great fun. We all ate far too much and spent our days talking and laughing and lazing about reading, swimming, playing boggle and discussing our many plans for this new year 2010. It has an auspicious ring to it -2010, as if this is a year to take note of.

I now have an ending for my new book. I am writing it for my sister who is courageously undergoing her second bout of chemotherapy at the moment; for it is her story. No matter how nail bitingly good the narrative may be, a story without a satisfactory ending is useless. I have been struggling with my ending for a while now and somehow, on the boat, during some interesting brainstorming sessions, everything came together and I have one which I feel will be a good conclusion for all my characters. This genre I am writing in, the supernatural, is not one I have attempted before and my research is taking me into realms I have never before explored. It is all very exciting and I am learning heaps about all sorts of – well, supernatural things, I suppose. This is my third attempt at telling this tale; the previous two faltered and died because I did not have the right balance between the real and the supernatural worlds. The trick I have discovered is that when one has created a world of magic one has to remain entirely in that world and not contaminate it with one’s own reality, or the magic is instantaneously lost. I am finding this quite a challenge but am enjoying the process. I hope this time, especially now that I know to what ending I am progressing, I will get it right. Third time lucky!

I have resolved to write a bit every day come what may so that when my sister has recovered from this round of chemo she will have her story to read.

Book Signing

December 1, 2009

I’ll be at the Coatesville Market on Sunday 6th December and 13th December selling my books. I’m hoping folks will want to buy  signed copies as Christmas presents for their friends. We’re going away for the weekend but I’ll be leaving the campsite at 6.00a.m. to get to my stall by 9.00. Hope the weather’s good but as Judy (thanks pal) arranged a stall indoors the books will stay dry even if it pours.

My Book Launch

November 22, 2009

Everything was fantastic. I was overwhelmed by how many people attended; friends I hadn’t seen in years and friends of friends whom I met on the night. It was a rare buzz. Frank Olsson introduced me and said so many delightful things about me and made so many funny jokes that by the time I stood up to speak  the audience was relaxed and my job was easy.

Many books were sold and now there will be so many more people out there in the community who can tell others about Buen Camino.

Thanks to all those of you who have contacted me to say you have managed to get hold of a copy of my book Buen Camino to enjoy while walking el Camino de Santiago. Don’t forget to stop in at Casa Rosa (Casa Banderas in real life).  When you get back to your ordinary world, be sure to write in and let me know how it went. All the best with your travels. Buen Camino!

‘Follow The Camino’ on facebook have asked for information on where to buy my book and have asked if they can insert an extract on the discussion board. How exciting! Of course for those who don’t have access to a New Zealand bookstore, copies can be ordered by e-mail scintillabooksales@gmail.com
